Of Day and Night
2. Marias troubles
I was sitting on a swing rocking back and forth, watching the shadows change different shapes as the sun began to quietly set behind my back. They grew longer and longer until finally they just stretched out across the pavement, completely covering it like a see through blanket. Night had finally come.
My eyes narrowed slightly as thoughts of the two men with whom I had encountered earlier that day. If one was just to look at them, they wouldnt have any reason to believe they were absolutely crazy. They are so handsome and sculpted that it almost seemed like God had personally created them with his own two hands. Yeah. Yeah, they are nice to look at, but once they started talking, you would know the truth.
The good looking men are not all gay; some of them are crazy too.
I sighed and looked up at the sky. It was dark and beautiful, but held no stars. Because the city is so bright, stars hardly ever were seen.
You are so predictable, a velvety smooth voice told me. I gasped and jumped up from the swing. I turned around to see who had approached me and then my eyes narrowed in annoyance.
Day smirked. Dont get all pissed because Im telling the truth. We knew you would come here. You always come here.
Its almost eight. I left you like three hours ago. If you knew I was here why didnt you come after me? I retorted, thinking that Id caught him in a lie.
Day shoved his hands in his pockets and shrugged nonchalantly at me. I was hungry. Tracking you down and then watching you like a hawk takes energy that an empty stomach just doesnt have.
My jaw dropped. WhatYouve been watching me?! I asked incredulously. Day nodded.
Yeah. He said airily. You know, you lead a pretty boring life. All you ever do is walk. He paused. You need to stop that, by the way.
I started backing away from him. I didnt want to be around him. He was crazy, right? I wasnt just going to stand there and bicker with a crazy guy. He could go off the deep end and attack me.
I turned to run out of the park and slammed right into something solid that knocked me on to my backside.
Ow! I cried out.
Night smiled down at me apologetically and then held his hand out to help me up. Sorry.
Like I said, Day headed over to me. Youre predictable.
The closer he got to me the harder my heart pounded in my chest. I was going to be cornered.
Fearful, I frantically tried to scramble away from them.
Dude, would you just give it a rest already? There is no way youll be able to get up and run away from us. Were faster than you are. Day smirked.
Why wont you just leave me alone! I exclaimed.
Because we cant. Night said.
I scowled at him. Thats not an ans
What the hell is going on here? a third voice sounded.
I turned my body and looked back. My eyes widened in extreme shock.
Youreyoure! I couldnt find the right words.
Thats right. Im Batman. He said.
I whipped my head around and looked at Day and Night. Night looked amused where as Day just looked pissed off.
What are you doing here? Day asked the mysterious newcomer.
Benny shrugged lazily. Im on vacation.
So then what are you doing here?
He shrugged. I was bored.
What the hell is going on here?! I screamed, and then looked at Benny. How do you know these guys?
Well for one thing, we work together. Day muttered unhappily.
And for another thing; were related.
I dont remember anything after that because I fainted.
